THE DEVOTIONAL METHOD OF BIBLE STUDY (How to Apply Scripture to Daily Living)

I. Introduction

A. Definition: Scripture application involves taking a passage of scripture, meditating on it and asking the Holy Spirit to help you apply it in a way that is personal, practical, possible and provable.

II. The Importance of Scripture Application

A. Scripture was written to show us how we are to live our lives.

B. Scripture application can change our lives, so that we become more Christ- like.

C. Studying scriptures without applying what has been learned can be  dangerous.

1. Knowledge puffs up (I Corinthians 8:1).

2. Knowledge requires action (James 1:22).

3. Knowledge increases responsibility (James 4:17).

III. Scripture Application is Hard Work

A. Scripture application requires serious thinking

1. Scripture application requires meditation, concentration, and prayerful thinking.

2. Scripture application involves searching for the biblical principle in a particular text.

B. Scripture application involves battling with Satan

1. Whenever one becomes serious about making changes in lifestyle, Satan intensifies his attacks.

C. Scripture application is against our nature

1. By nature we resist change.

IV. How to Apply Scripture to Daily Living

A. Pray for direction

1. Ask God to help you apply the scripture you are studying.

2. Ask God to show you specifically what he wants you to do.

3. Tell God you are willing to obey what he shows you.

4. Tell God you are willing to share the scripture application with others.

B. Meditation

1. Meditation is the key to scripture application.

2.  Scriptural meditation is reading a passage in the bible and concentrating  on it in different ways.

1. Memorize the selected verse.

2. Investigate the verse by asking key questions.

3. Do a word Study.

4. Emphasize each word in the passage under study.

“Ican do everything through him who gives me   strength.”

“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”

“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”

“I can do everythingthrough him who gives me   strength.”

“I can do everything throughhim who gives me   strength.”

“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”

“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”

“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”

“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”

“I can do everything through him who gives me   strength.”

5. Visualize the significance of each word.

6. Paraphrase the passage under study; rephrase it in your own words.

7. Personalize the passage you are studying. Put your name in the place of the pronouns or nouns.

8. Use the S-P-A-C-E- P-E-T-S acrostic.

· Sin to confess?

· Promise to claim?

· Attitude to change?

· Command to obey?

· Example to follow?

· Prayer to pray?

· Error to avoid?

· Truth to believe?

· Something to praise God for?

11. Pray the scripture back to God

C. Write out an application

1. The application must be personal. Write the application in the first person singular. Use the personal pronouns “I”, “me”, “my” and “mine”.

2. The application must be practical. It must be something you can do. Plan a definite course of action.

3. The application must be possible. It must be something you can accomplish.

4. The application must be provable. It must be measurable so that you will show when you have done it.

5. The four factors in the written application:

(a) Personal: “I need to …”

(b)  Practical:  “I need to study God’s word…”

(c)  Possible:  “I need to study God’s word daily.”

(d)  Provable:  “I need to study God’s word daily for 30 minutes.”

•"How to Stay Away From Old Sinful Ways"

So many Christians struggle with the different things that are going on in their lives today!
So many fall back into the very things that GOD Has Originally Delivered Them From.
WHY?
Because they allow Satan to distract them, causing them to forget over time, what GOD Has Done For Them; this allows their nature (flesh) to slowly creep back in, as it did with the Children of Israel!
GOD Warned Them To Never Forget HIM, which included how HE Delivered Them From The Hands Of The Egyptians!!!
Deut. 6:12, KJV;
But as we know, they often forgot!

I Have Good News For You Today!
A good way to never fall victim to this, Is To Keep What GOD Has Delivered You From, FRESH!!!  HOW?
By Giving Praise & Worship To GOD DAILY, For The Very Things HE Has Delivered You Form.
Add Them In Your Morning Prayer (etc.)!
Just As A Baker Ensures The Freshness Of His Baked Goods On A DAILY Basis By Baking Them Fresh Every Morning, So Should We, Give Praise & Worship DAILY, For The Very Things That GOD Has Done For Us! This Will Keep It Fresh In Our minds & Give Us Continuous Victory!!!
GOD Inhabits Our Praise, Psalm 22:3, KJV; For It Is HIS Will That We Stay Delivered!!!  Gal. 5:I, KJV; & Psalm 50:15, KJV;

This Has Been Evident In My Own Life With Continued Blessings Of Success🙏🏽

To GOD Be The Glory☝🏽

Note:
Do this, not as a Ritual, but with a Genuine Heart😇

LET THE HOLY SPIRIT LEAD YOU

FREDERICK. M

We as human beings can sometimes become easily distracted. Even as leaders. We can find ourselves doing what we once knew was bad or evil, and against God standards, and character. It has been a blessing to me to read about how God extended His grace to His people in the book of Ezra.

People don't generally look there to see the grace of God, at least I hadn't before. But when reading one day, I got to Ezra chapter nine, and there it was. To my amazement I saw what God would have me preach at a home going service. "God's Amazing Grace"!

Well here's a little background. Some of the people brought to Ezra's attention that the people of God, and the leaders were involved in detestable practices. So much so that there was no distinction between the people of God and those who were not of God. The people of God had given in to marrying those who didn't know Him. Much like today.     Ezra 9:8 But for a brief moment God was willing to extend His grace to the people. I find it amazing that God was extending His grace at the moment this message was being proclaimed. As well it is now, to whomever is reading it.           Although grace is an attribute of God's love, like a cool breeze on a hot day, no-one knows how long it will last.
He says, today if you hear my voice harden not your heart. Hebrew 4:7.
His grace is synonymous with favor. Psalm 84:11 Perhaps you thought He was withholding something, but He was waiting on you.
We who were counted with the wicked are no-longer. Now trusting Christ for this life and beyond. Not with ashes on our face or our heads covered or bowed low. But humble, recognizing our daily need for Him.
Perhaps you being highly intelligent, or extremely good looking, or having a lot of money, is a hindrance, to seeing a need for God.
If today you would recognize and accept that Jesus paid the sin debt of whoever would come to Him, salvation present, continual, and future is yours. Roman 3:23. For the cost of sin is death and Christ being the God man paid that dept once for all. We all have an appointment with death, but none of us knows what day or time it is.
Keeping all this in mind. God's grace is extended to man kind. We don't know how long it will last. Now is the acceptable time.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT

Daniel 4:37

Nebuchadnezzar: And those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT

Ephesians 5:18 (New International Version)

Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.”

Ephesians 5:18 (New American Standard Bible)

“And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but befilled with the Spirit,”

Ephesians 5:18 (Amplified Bible)

“And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever befilled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit.”

Ephesians 5:18 (American Standard Version)

And be not drunken with wine, wherein is riot, but be filled with the Spirit;

I. INTRODUCTION

A. Definition of being filled with the Spirit: To be filled with the Spirit is to be full of the Spirit, and thereby controlled by the Spirit.

B. A contrast of getting drunk with wine vs. being filled with the Spirit.

1. In getting drunk, I am doing the action vs. being filled in which the action is being done through me.

2. A matter of doing vs. being.

3. Doing (controlling) what I want vs. Being controlled bythe Holy Spirit (someone else).

II. BASIC TRUTHS ABOUT BEING FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

A. The Holy Spirits dwells within us. (John 14:17)

B. Before we can be filled, we must deal with known sin in our life. (I John 3:4)

C. We must renounce our own ways and submit to Christ. (Romans 6:13)

III. THE SPIRIT’S FILLING

A. God’s Command.

1. We are commanded to be filled with the Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18)

B. Being Filled Is for Every Believer.

1. The command of Ephesians 5:18 is plural. It applies to every believer.

2. Every Christian has been baptized by the Spirit into the body of Christ, and every believer is indwelt by the Spirit yet, not every Christian is filled with the Spirit.

C. God Does It.

1. If we are to “be filled,” somebody else provides the action.

2. If we are not filled with the Holy Spirit, anything else that fills our life becomes unfulfilling in a matter of time.

D. Keep It Up.

1. This plural, passive command is also in the present tense, which means it is to be a continuous process.

2. An accurate translation would be, “Keep on being filled with the Spirit.”

IV. WHAT IT MEANS TO BE FILLED

A. A Matter of Control.

1. When you are filled in the New Testament sense, it means that somebody or something has taken over command in your life.

2. The purpose of the Spirit’s filling is that He might control our lives.

B. Controlled by another.

1. What alcohol is to the body negatively, the Holy Spirit is to the spirit positively?

2. The Spirit transforms us supernaturally.

C. New Power.

When His power is released by our submission and willingness to be filled, He empowers us to do great deeds.

•SPEAK THE WORD•

Genesis Chapter 1:1-31
Tells Us That GOD Spoke The World Into Existences.

NOTE:
John 1:1-5 NLT;
“In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through Him, and nothing was created except through Him. The Word Gave LIFE To Everything That Was Created, And His LIFE  Brought Light To Everyone. The Light Shines In The Darkness, And The Darkness Can NEVER Extinguish It.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭55:10-11‬ ‭AMP;
“For as the rain and snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth, Making it bear and sprout, And providing seed to the sower and bread to the eater, So will My Word be which goes out of My Mouth; It will not return to Me void (useless, without result), Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I Sent It.”

NOTE:
“Jesus was led by The Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
He was tempted three times; & after each temptation He responded with these Words:
It Is Written; He then defeated Satan By Speaking The All Powerful Word Of GOD...”
Read Matthew 4:1-11...

BATTLE OF THE AGES

Revelation 12:7- 12

7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

Ezekiel 28:13-19

13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.

19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.

Isaiah 14:12- 17

12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

Luke 10:18

And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
